ALABAMA REAL ESTATE JOURNAL

Jim Lawrence to Moderate Panel at ACREres 2019

Renowned and beloved real estate educator Jim Lawrence will lead the RRC panel at ACREres, the Alabama Center for Real Estate’s third annual residential real estate conference and expo on February 7 at The Club in Birmingham. This year’s “Leading EDGE – Explore, Discover, Grow, Engage” theme focuses on how to upskill to excel in a constantly evolving environment.

Jim recently retired from teaching real estate after a 40-year career. During that time, he authored and taught sales training programs for Johnson-Rast and Hays and LAH Real Estate. He also authored several of the required risk management courses for the Alabama Real Estate Commission. Jim wrote and taught numerous continuing education courses and was certified by NAR to teach CRB, ABR, SRES, Code of Ethics, Professional Standards and Military Relocation courses. Additionally, Jim served as ACRE’s director of education from x – 2017. ACRE still offers self-paced online CE with Jim on the ACRE website.

In addition to teaching real estate, Jim also had a prolific career as an agent and broker. He began his real estate career with Johnson-Rast and Hays in 1978, was recognized as the company’s top sales manager numerous times, and opened LAH in 1992.  In ten years, the company grew from one agent to the second largest company in the state. Jim was named the Birmingham Association of REALTORS® “REALTOR® of the Year” in 1989 and was recognized for his leadership by being awarded the prestigious Tom Rast Award in 2004. He served as president of the Birmingham Association of REALTORS® in 2007.  He holds the ABR, ABRM, CRB, SRES, and CDEI designations.

Prior to his real estate career, Jim graduated from Troy High School in 1959, The Citadel in 1963 with a BA in English, and from the University of Alabama in 1973 with a MA in English.  He served as an officer in the United States Army, and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Army Commendation Medal for his actions in combat in Vietnam. Jim also taught composition and literature at the University of Alabama.

The RRC panel at ACREres offers agent-to-agent learning with Alabama RRC designees who will share how they achieved their successes and the strategies you can implement in your own business. The panel members are Carol Andrews (House & Home Realty, Montgomery), Morgan Ashurst (Ashurst Niemeyer Real Estate, Fairhope), Mary Harmon Young (Pritchett-Moore Real Estate, Tuscaloosa), and Sharita Whitehead (Whitehead Realty, Huntsville).

Additionally, Jim will preview information from his new book “Sell Smart!” which will be published by ACRE in the near future.  The book captures Jim’s unique teaching personality, while encapsulating the information from his risk management classes.
