ACRE Director of Research and Corporate Engagement KC Conway will host a robust discussion on the latest, most anticipated Emerging Trends report at this year’s ACREcom conference on February 7, 2020, in Birmingham, Alabama. This report is widely-read among CRE industry leaders, driving investors and capital sources on where to allocate their decisions.
The report is published every year by the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and is a comprehensive study on emerging trends impacting commercial real estate. The report surveys thousands of members, and the 2020 report utilized a new survey method that enabled a deeper dive into evolving trends at the state and MSA levels. For example, the report features Birmingham on the list of Top 80 markets to monitor and shows Hipster Markets as the top new trend in 2020.
The head of the Emerging Trends project from ULI, Anita Kramer, and the driving force behind Alabama having a ULI Chapter, D. Scott McLain, are the two featured panelists at this year’s ULI Emerging Trends Panel at ACREcom 2020.
McLain is a Certified Commercial Investment member and a Principal and Managing Broker of Coldwell Banker Commercial McLain Real Estate. He has served as the Southern Division Chair of Governmental Affairs for the International Council of Shopping Centers, the Coldwell Banker Commercial National Advisory Board, and currently serves as Chair of the Retail Group of Coldwell Banker Commercial globally. McLain is a retail developer, advocate for downtown redevelopment, and a proponent of adaptive reuse of existing real estate. He holds a degree in Public Policy from Duke University and a Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law. McLain graduated from Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD) for the Advanced Management Development Program designation in commercial real estate in 2007 and serves on the Harvard GSD Alumni Council.
Kramer is the Senior Vice President at ULI Center for Capital Markets and Real Estate, directing and managing Emerging Trends Americas, the semi-annual ULI Real Estate Economic Forecast, and the Deal Profile programs. She also provides support to the ULI and McCoy Symposium on Real Estate Finance. She joined ULI as the Senior Director of Retail and Mixed-Use Development, successfully directing research, education and programs in the area of retail and mixed-use development. In this role, she was responsible for several programs and conferences. Prior to joining ULI, Kramer founded Anita Kramer & Associates after serving as Vice President of the Natelson Company in Los Angeles. In her prior roles, she was a consultant, performing economic and financial analyses for both private and public clients involved in development and land-use strategies. Kramer is a graduate from Harvard University where she earned her master’s in city and regional planning with a specialization in housing and community development. She received her undergraduate degree in economics and urban studies from the University of Rochester.
