According to NAR’s REALTORS and Sustainability 2018 report , 61% of REALTORS® from the nationwide survey said their clients were interested in sustainability topics and the benefits that sustainability provides, such as comfortable living space, access to frequently visited places, and reasonable operating and utility costs. Today, green homes encompass more than solar panels on the roof and energy-efficient appliances. Sustainable housing also includes features like smart technology, proximity to frequently visited places and shared community elements like bike lanes. Real estate professionals need to become green educated to stay in tune with the needs of their customers
Amanda Stinton, director of leadership & sustainability for the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), will present “Smart, Simple, Sustainable – What Today’s Buyers Want” at the third annual Alabama Residential Real Estate Conference and Expo powered by the Alabama Center for Real Estate and the Birmingham Association of REALTORS® on February 7 at The Club in Birmingham. This year’s “Leading EDGE – Explore, Discover, Grow, Engage” theme focuses on how to upskill to excel in a constantly evolving environment.
Stinton’s session will share why consumers want products and systems to create a comfortable living space with reduced energy costs, how this consumer trend is shaping the industry and how to “bring green home” to your buyers. As green becomes mainstream, REALTORS® need to be prepared to integrate sustainability into their marketing and services.
Stinton is responsible for the growth and strategic direction of NAR’s Sustainability Program, which engages state and local associations, members, and industry organizations to position NAR as a leading voice on sustainability in the built environment. She also oversees NAR’s volunteer leadership programs, including NAR Leadership Academy, the REALTOR® Leadership Program, and others.
She has a history of collaborating with members, boards, and organizations to increase awareness and access to resources related to energy efficiency, sustainability and technology. Stinton leads initiatives and programs on green home features, data, and sustainability for Realtors and cooperating industries. Through outreach, research, creation of resources, and public speaking, she stays tuned into industry shifts that directly affect home buyers. Her work allows REALTORS® to have confidence when helping clients navigate the benefits of sustainability, or of greener homes and communities.
